And, in fact, it generally has profoundly negative, unintended, practical consequences. While we intuit that torture is wrong, we only know of its futility thanks to a few intrepid researchers who patiently sift the archives. For a sample of what can be known I turned to Dr. Darius Rejali, author most recently of the encyclopedic (and aptly titled) Torture and Democracy. It was kind of Darius to take time to talk with me and I appreciate his wisdom and insight. Total runtime an hour and three minutes. Be educated!
