  9. Resolved Question: What options are out there to get rid of house/field mice?!?
  10. 28 May 2008 at 6:02pm
I've tried just about everything. When my father-in-law lived with us he had a cat, and we had no problem. he moved out. this past winter we started having a mouse problem (we live out kinda in the country behind a large field). we did the mouse traps, and after about catching 13 very fat mice i believe they caught on and we havent been able to catch one for a cpl months now. we tried moth balls and they just stank up the house. an exterminator costs way more than our budget can afford. the problem just keeps getting worse and makes me sick to my stomach. what options do i have?!? should we invest in another animal (we already have 2 dogs, 2 snakes, a mali uromatyx, 3 betta fish, and a rat) and adopt a cat? should i try poisen and hope i can find the dead mice? are there other options i am not aware of? please help!! just for info, cant feed field mice to pet snakes. too may parasites and what not when they are not used to eating mice like that.

  27. Resolved Question: Why Isn't real Africa taught?
  28. 21 May 2008 at 12:36pm
You know i've been reading up on Africa and I was just wondering why isn't the real Africa taught. The real history why aren't we learning about the Askumite empire, Nubain empire, Mali, Songahi, Great Zimbabwe. Why do America and other non-African nation continually tell you my ancestors were eating rocks when the Aksumite were constructing the best and strongest Navy while their partnership with the ROMAN EMPIRE. Why they don't talk about the Bantu who established order, higher thinking, and government throughout Africa. Why don't they talk about Africa's great Argcultrual system, Great religion. The Bantu even have legends and myths that match the Celebrated Greek Mythology. Of course I know the real reason why they do this. But tell me why you believe they block out the truth about the real Pre-colonial Africa. No I can't provide any books sites all I can say is I goggled up most of my information but im planning on getting some books to learn more about Africa's History.

  41. Resolved Question: Uromastyx has yellow crust around mouth?
  42. 15 May 2008 at 1:25pm
I have a mali uromastyx. A little over a year old maybe 15 months. He's starting to have thin yellow crust around his mouth. Imagine you eat peanutbutter and forget to wipe your lip and it dries.(No I don't feed him peanut butter but it feels like that) I can scrape it off gently and it goes away for a month but always comes back. I looked in his mouth which appears fine, it seems to be a problem with his lips. Before I get charged a fee for a vet that is more than 10 doctor visits for me I'd like to have an idea of what this is. I suspect it's some kind of bacteria. He's still super energetic and active, kind of shy but very strong. Just wish he would grow faster and maybe if he was bigger he'd have better immunity. He's only 5 inches long.

  45. Resolved Question: New large bearded dragon help, hates water? How can I trai...
  46. 14 May 2008 at 5:44pm
I have a young sandfire beardied dragon, and a young Mali Uromastyx-(Seperated) about a year old each. Now, I purchased a large bearded dragon for a great price, so cheap bc his owners gave him away to the store, and bought everything I needed. He's about 15 inches long and his head is huge. Almost 4 inches wide, his head is like a fist-he's gorgeous. He is calm, but curious of his new surroundings-he became enraged when he saw himself in the mirror. And apparently he won't eat anything other than crickets and pinkies. I've owned large iguanas years ago, as a young teenager-(6 footers)but I still find this bearded dragon slightly intimidating. I don't understand alot of his behaviors. He likes being held but I'm not 100% trusting. I raised All the reptiles mentioned from youth. I'd really like to get him on veggies most of all, any advice?

  84. 29 Apr 2008 at 4:20pm
Betis olim Gazam contra exercitum Alexandri fortitier defendebat. ubi hostes per muros in oppidum irrupereunt, Betis, multis vulneribus confectus, quamquam sciebat se a suis relictum esse, haud minus acriter copiis hostium resistit. cum tandemsuperatus esset, milites eum statim ad regem duxerunt. ille, magnopere gavisus quod eum vivum ceperant, 'nunc miserrime tibi moriendum est' inquit. 'quidquid mali contra captivum facere possum, id patieris.' The filtered word is c u m.

  93. Resolved Question: Why Are People So Ignorant of Africa?
  94. 28 Apr 2008 at 4:10am
The blatant anti-African, and consequently, black, racism that still exists is dumbfounding. Throughout school we are raised to believe that peoples' ignorance of Africa just magically poofed and disappeared somewhere around 1968, and a comprehensive knowledge of the TRUE abuses (not necesarrily slavery) that Africans faced at the hands of Europeans took its place. I continue to hear all of this pure idiocy and lack of knowledge not-so-cleverly disguised as intellectual discourse, flowing like slobber from the mouths of the enormous amounts of racists and racially/culturally ignorant peoples of the world(primarily America). I constantly hear people say that Africans were the last to develop all of the most basic human needs, such as eating utensils, fire, etc, when the slightest amount of research will tell you they were the first. That Africans lived in mud-huts when Europeans arrived when the cities of West Africa in timbo, Mali, Songhai, Hausa, Benin, etc. elicited notable reactions from the Dutch and Portuguese; the Dutch came right out and said, 'we can find no ways in which they are inferior", in reference to their houses. Many drawings can be found, mainly by the Dutch, of the towns and cities of Timbo, Benin, etc., and they all look like perfectly decent cities, with roads, and even SEWERS, in no way behind the rest technologically. In the case of architecture, Europeans have an exquisite architectural history, but Africans are not far behind. From ancient, to medieval, to modern times, the pyramids of Ancient Kush, the Great Obelisk of Axum, the Great Mosque of Djenne; has anybody seen the medieval churches of Ethiopia? the ruins of Great Zimbabwe? At many times in history, Africa has been architecturaly ahead of the rest of the world, and some times not. And what's with this illiteracy myth? Do people not know of Timbuktu, a cultural center of the WORLD, during a time when Europe literally boasted none? Libraries, universities, poets and scholars from Africa and the Middle East all went to Timbuktu to study and develop those Islamic ideas that would eventually become the cornerstone of European technology after the cultural diffusion of the Crusades. So yes, we can say that some European inventions that were based off of Islamic ones, came from (sub-Saharan), Africa, because Timbuktu was THE cultural center of the known world. In terms of money, West African kingdoms were some the richest in the world; The standardization of weight and measurment in currency came from the Songhai. Coins and the same types of currencies as the rest of the civilized world were used. In terms of arts; we wouldn't have ANY of the music that we have today if it weren't for African music, that spawned blues and jazz, which gave way to rock & roll, and thus pop, hip hop, r&b, jazz, etc. African Nok sculptures expressed a symbolism not seen in Western art until the 20th century. Egyptian wall murals are some of the earliest and most descriptive art. You can find Yoruba and Benin bronzes everywhere from the Louvre to the Met. Why? Clearly not because Africans were "so uncivilized". In fact, all of the most influential Western artists were influenced by ancient and medieval African art at one time or another. And I also hear about how "Africans didn't sail", etc.; when the truth of the matter is that people on the Eastern coast of Africa were trading with Saudi Arabia in ancient times, and by medieval times were trading with India. The Mansa of Mali reputedly sent a fleet of ships(yes they had them), to the Americas(not knowing where he was going exactly), about 100 years before Columbus, so clearly they weren't too deficient in the sailing department. And people always say, "Well why didn't Africans colonize Europeans". Well I'll tell you why; Africans and Europeans had been trading and interacting for about 700 years before the colonization period; Africans knew where Europeans were, just as Europeans knew where Africans were. The only difference is that Africans honored their relationships with Europeans, and thus did nothing against them. In fact, 500 years before colonialization, Europeans had tried to colonize Africa, but had failed, being held off time and time again. Until, of course, Europeans invented the MAXIM, gun, yes MAXIM gun, not guns in general, because despite the crusty old 70 year old book you used in your 3rd rate high-school that clearly didn't teach you history, all Africans did not fight with bows and spears(although some did, in certain areas). They had guns too, not only from the slave trade from earlier years, but also because about half of Africa was Muslim and traded extensively with the Arabs (who absolutely refuse to give up the slave trade today). And in terms of technology, if we didn't have Africans, or those of African descent, our lightbulbs wouldn't work correctly, elevators would be no more, our refrigerators wouldn't work, traffic signals would suck, cell phones would be impossible, and I could go on and f***ing on. And the thing that bugs me is that, in doing away with the mistakes that people have made in the past, we must completely acknowledge the offense in the first place. Part of doing that is not acknowledging slavery, or the unfairness of colonial lines, and the monopoly of colonized peoples, but most importantly how AFRICAS CULTURE WAS DESTROYED AND ITS REMNANTS HIDDEN FROM THE PUBLIC SPOTLIGHT. All of that isn't in any given history textbook (although some is), but we get pages on random Europeans of relatively little importance. That's a part of the lingering remnants of the racism, and soon it will go away, but still, it must be acknowledged, and the exact same people that say that racism against Africans is justified because of their "uncivilized" nature, are the only ones propogating the phenomena, simply with their existence, not the "backwardness" of Africans. And I hate when some people complain about how much black (Americans) complain. As I have outlined above, the fact that this knowledge is not well known, and that I have, and continue to hear gross miseducation on the part of Africans, and by extension blacks, usually casting them in a negative and stupefied light, is MUCH reason to continue complaining and to continue lobbying until the history and contributions of Africa have been brought to light so that racism in people with a natural disposition towards ignorance, can be stamped out. Because until then, it ill continue to flourish, and most whites will continue to be blind to its effects, as they are today (because you can ask any black person, and they can tell that a white person recognizes racism only about 25% of the time that its actually there, because it's rarely directed towards them, besides in retaliation), claiming that blacks are simply "whining", or "complaining", when the truth is that we're just f***ing sick of it.

  97. Resolved Question: I don't even know what to think?
  98. 26 Apr 2008 at 8:08pm
I just took my dogs to the dogpark, Amara has been going her whole life and Mali went with me this summer and has been going since I got him a little over a month ago. There's never been a SINGLE problem. Not once. Today, I took Diesel with me who hasn't been since December. Becuase he was with me I took them back to the very far corner of the park away from all the people and dogs. There were only a few there so I thought all would be ok. Well, everyone started to trickle towards me and I kept moving away until we were literally backed into a corner. They all started talking to me, being very nice etc. and their two little girls came over. They weren't being rowdy or anything, but kept trying to touch Amara and Malachi on the butt (I had Diesel in a down because of all the other dogs around). I looked at Diesel to make sure he was still down and heard a "wuff" and one of the little girls screamed. Not finished>>>> I got up and got over to her, her parents were looking at her back and she had a pinpoint bruise coming up. No broken skin but an obvious nip. I grabbed Mali and Diesel and got them to the car (calmly) and went back to get my purse and Amara. What would you do? The park rules are NO CHILDREN UNDER 12. Neither of these girls were over 12 and neither should be in the park. The people told me I didn't have to go but I was so furious I just couldn't stay. MY DOG BIT SOMEONE and it's "ok"? I don't think so. They had their CHILD in the park and my dog bit their child and now I have to leave because of that. I don't care if they said it was ok or not. I ALWAYS make a big deal about people bringing their kids, its one of my pet peeves. A dog bites, knocks down, runs over or tackles and hurts a child and guess who's going to get in trouble? I am so angry right now I'm shaking and I don't know what to think. Mali is a rescue and has NEVER displayed this behavior I feel like I shouldn't go back, but then again, it's a DOG PARK. What should I do!?! I don't want to NOT go because I've got very good friends out there, it's the only place my dogs can go and RUN flat out (my walking them doesn't really cut it). At the same time though, I feel like my dog is a danger to children. How exactly do you keep kids out? People don't read the rule boards anyway. Everyone loves my dogs, I am really upset and not sure what I should do. She may have tried to touch his butt. He just had a mass removed a little over a week ago and I'm sure it's still sore... Still.... my fawn female HATES boys from about 9-12. My neighbors kids terrorized her last summer before I realized it and put a stop to it. So I am VERY careful around children. I also am not crazy about kids... putting it nicely... Honestly, I just didn't have any backup and didn't want to sound like a raving lunatic telling them they needed to leave.

  99. Resolved Question: Benti or Banti, West Guinea and the Soussou (Susu) Tribe?
  100. 26 Apr 2008 at 6:05pm
Does anyone know about the history of Benti, Guinea? Also I would like to know about the Susu people of Africa. Are they the same blood descendent's of the Mali or are they another group of people? Were they always in West Africa or did they migrate from another area, if so where? Thanks in advance.< >
