  1. Resolved Question: Are coaches allowed to fail students if they don't fundraise?
  2. 31 May 2008 at 7:43pm
So here's the story: I am a high school student and I am part of the football team, which is 6th period (last period of the day, within normal school schedule). My parents will not let me play the upcoming season, so I will keep participating in 6th period until the end of the year for a grade. However, my coach said that if I do not complete the fundraising program (which basically raises money to buy the football equipment, which I won't need anyway), I will receive a failing grade for 6th period. [The fundraiser involves selling 150 raffle tickets for $2 each within a 2 week period (150 per player). If tickets are not sold, the money must be paid anyway at the deadline ($300)] Are teachers permitted to do this in the California education system? And if I do sell these tickets and give the $300 to the coach, what will he do with the money since I won't be needing any equipment?

  10. 31 May 2008 at 7:06pm
with all politicians being useless whoever gets into power... and the growing issues of crime (especially youth), imagration, NHS, Police and education. Leading to working people wondering where there tax money goes (apparently on politicans expenses). What actually can we do? I understand the people power, but how, all we can do is not vote. The country needs re-structuring, Laws need an overhaul.

  18. 31 May 2008 at 6:37pm
I am just thinking, Why do we have to read, study and waste time reading others discoveries and how they view the world instead of building our own discoveries from our perspectives, that way we could lead instead of follow? I am just wondering about how did education really start, there were no books or asigned reading to discover something. The first human beings to start this basically thought out everything without books or school. But how did the people who started science and education come to their conclusion when there was no books back then? And look at all our billionaires, where almost half of them are college dropouts without a degree or higher education. Thank you!

  22. 31 May 2008 at 6:30pm
What courses or credits would you recommend for someone who wants to go into equine (horse) journalism after high school or wants to train horses and instruct riding program. (also considering possibly vet school and stuff, if i can afford it). I'm finishing my freshmen year, having done honors biology, algebra 1&2, a hs geography class, spanish I, english 9, and pe credits for one year. I'm homeschooled. Next year i'm gonna take chemestry, american history, literature, advanced composition, geometry. I have also done some electives and fine art, music type stuff. What courses do you think i should definatly take? You can list the three separate carreers i'm interested in seperatly with the courses i should definatly take for each of them, that might be easier. THanks:) PS. what would the education times be exactly for each of the careers? thanks ?

  45. Resolved Question: Ron Paul is against the Deparmtent of Education?
  46. 31 May 2008 at 5:06pm
Ever since Carter put this department into place, our education system has gone down the gutter, while other countries surpass our education level. Modern politicians made it twice as big, and has gone even worse than it was since established. That said, are you against, or in favor of abolishing it? As someone stated, should it be left to the free market/states, or handled by the government?

  47. Resolved Question: Education and Answering/Asking questions on Y/A?
  48. 31 May 2008 at 4:46pm
Do you think you learn more about yourself from the answers and ratings given by others or from yourself on Yahoo Answers? Which do you seek to obtain when asking/answering a question on the forum.......knowledge about yourself, or about those around you? Feel free to elaborate as much as you feel and think necessary..... Honest, serious, and mature responses are what I'm really looking for. Of course, if you choose to do otherwise, just ask the above stated question to yourself before and after you respond. Thank You. Looks like I didn't go far enough into the question here....How about the who, what, where, when, why and how? Who makes yahoo answers an environment truly conducive to learning? What factors or non-factors make learning worthwhile? Which forum(s) are most popular or useful and why? How do you expect to contribute to the overall value of such a forum? Ok Ranto...It seems to me you are trying to put forth that your existence within the y/a realm is but a product of "some" knowledge, not "all knowledge....correct? Coupled with an innate propensity for multi-tasking......Nice... Tell me this....Why don't you turn NBC on at......8:00 pm Eastern time and tell me who's going to win game four? Penguins or Red Wings?

  65. Resolved Question: Are there any other teachers in Texas that are just fed up?
  66. 31 May 2008 at 3:01pm
People outside of education have so little understanding of what the job is like. I've been doing this for 17 years and I feel like I'm in a battle zone; no support, personal and sometimes physical attacks on teachers, people who just walk out of the job because it is too tough, the constant and never ending work, and the insulting emphasis on mediocrity like the TAKS Test and NCLB. I love my students but we aren't helping them become productive citizens we are losing our inner city kids. My school district grabs at programs, like AVID and Capturing Kid's Hearts, but never follows through on them. It is all show so someone can protect or validate their position. Please, someone give me hope I am so tired.

  69. Voting Question: Open University.......?
  70. 31 May 2008 at 2:41pm
Hi there, I am presently undertaking the Open University course "DD100: An Introduction to the Social Sciences", it's a pass/fail course and the pass mark is 40%. My first three TMAs have scored 68%, 65%, and 66% respectively. I achieved very high scores at school, but that was eight years ago (I have been out of education due to health problems). I feel I could be doing better and my marks aren't reflective of my intelligence. Maybe I am a little sloppy and complacent I don't know. I received my marks for my most recent TMA today and the part I thought would do really well only scored 64%, ironic given I helped a student who started the course earlier than I and she scored 80% My question is do you feel I should be disheartened by these scores, or do you think it is more a case of me adjusting to student life again? My tutor claims the latter, but ever the pessimist I keep letting doubts creep in. Any advice is appreciated, thanks Thanks for the answer

  91. Resolved Question: Question for retail managers?
  92. 31 May 2008 at 12:57pm
I have a question for anybody who is a retail manager. WHat do you look for when promoting one of your employees? I used to work for OfficeMax for nearly two years and during that time I did everything could think of: Did things without being asked or told, went to customers places of business when they had trouble with their product, made pickups from other stores, nd so much more. Plus I have a bachelor's in Business, but despite all of that, my store manager and district manager never took me seriously. I was even passed over for people with lesser performance and lesser education. In fact my DM shot me down when I went to another store because I heard they were looking for a key holder. SO after not getting an explaination of what I'm doing wrong or NOT doing, I decided not to care anymore, and therefore in the end I was fired. If I were to work for you, what would I have to do to make you promote me?

  95. Resolved Question: Is your country best to study abroad in?
  96. 31 May 2008 at 12:45pm
I'm planning on studying abroad junior year. I speak a little Spanish (I'll be done w/ 3rd level Spanish by then), but no other language. (Our school doesn't have good, good language programs for anything other than French and Spanish...). I live in the US I think it'd be best to start out in Europe, since I've never been (and lots of English is spoken there). My mom said it was alright. The only thing is... I'd need a full ride to get there (as in scholarships). I haven't found any great scholarships yet... I've looked into Rotary, but they choose where you go AND you can't have 'romantic involvement.' That's too strict for me. I'm a teenager, right?! Haha. Aside from all jokes, which country has great education (I'm in 3 adv classes!) and clubs (co-curriculars)?! Which is the best?! Also, lots of variety in classes. I don't know what I want to be. I love all European accents. (Especially Brit boys)...

  97. Resolved Question: I'm scared of growing up...?
  98. 31 May 2008 at 12:34pm
I'm 19, and sometimes i act my age, other times I don't. I am just so scared, I don't feel ready to "go into the big wide world", and to be honest, I don't think I ever will. I'm that kinda person, I get afraid so easily, am shy when it comes to new things, and always need reassurance from others. I'm nearing the end of my college course and then I'll have to get a job... I've been in education all this time, and to be honest, still want to be, even if it's just for my secuirty, (that I feel safe, "at home" used to it...). However I'm so confused as I feel like that, yet for some things, I want to go out there and do it, yet i know in reality I wouldn't be able to for the reasons I said above. Will this feeling ever end? I don't want any horrible comments or anything, well.. only if your being cruel to be kind I guess...

  99. Resolved Question: Black girl with asian-like mentality?
  100. 31 May 2008 at 12:30pm
Alot of guys say they're attracted to asian girls because of the way that they think--which is intelligence and satisfying other people. And I have been told I have these characteristics, I deeply value education and I enjoy making other people happy and I am not materialistic. But in main stream America this probably does not matter since black girls (no matter what their personality) are seen as horrid. http://www.paula-patton.net/gallery/displayimage.php?pid=270&fullsize=1 alot of people say I look like her do I seem desirable or am I just doomed because I'm black?< >
