Cape Verde?
Heck, there are too many places to stay, it depends on your budget and preferences:

We were there last year. The currency we used was the Euro...it was accepted everywhere we went. We stayed on three islands..Boa Vista, Santiago and Fogo. Fogo is recommended as you can drive (or be driven) along the crater of an extinct volcano and even have a meal at a restaurant there. The only problem we found about Cape Verde was that sometimes the times between connecting flights to different islands was rather long. I can speak some Portuguese so that helped a lot with communication as English is not widely spoken on some islands.
As for malarial cover...it is NOT needed...this was one of the reasons we chose Cape Verde.
If the Cape Verde Islands are a good destination for you, I do not know. it depends what you expect and what you would like to do.
Speaking in general Cape Verde is a surfer's paradise and a place to relax. I would recommende NOT to stay on Sal. In Sal tourism started with all bad side effects. Also visiting Cape Verde for 3 months may be a bit long in case you look for varietes. The best variety is to do some Island hopping. Every Island of Cape Verde is different.
Cape Verde belongs to the poorest countries and there is hardly anything to buy. Everything needs to be importet and is therefore kind of expensive. Example for having dinner:
1. Go to a Restaurant Western Style, have an excellent dinner and expect to may more than at home.
2. Go to typical Restaurant. Big Mama has tuna on the grill and will serve it in her living room. This room will have some tables, table clothes, dishes etc, but nothing will fit. But - you will eat the most delious fish and the best tasting potatoes of your life.
On Cape Verde you still can buy single cigarettes and the salesperson may be confused if you are asking for a carton.
No public transportation on Cape Verde, but your hotel has a shuttle bus or you just jump on any car which comes along. Offer the driver a fare, but he will refuse and please accept this. Otherwise you'll offend him.
Also when Cape Verde belongs to Africa, it's totally different. Cape Verdians are all mixed and it is common to see blond blacks. Their music is more Reggae related than playing African drums. In mny corners you will feel the charme of Cape Verde being a Portugise Colony before.
Living on Cape Verde is very expensive or very cheap depending where you live and eat. Best thing to do is to spend money on accomodation and eat at local places. But please be aware that in this case you may eat Tuna 7 times the week:)). The menue card offers much more, but what will be served will depend on what was caught in the morning.
Please get a private health insurance, especially if you decide to stay longer. Medical is poor and it's advised to be covered to be flown out in case of an emergency.
Cape Verdians hardly do not speak any english, but are some of the most friendly and open people you can think about.

Wish you and your gf a very nice time on Cape Verde!
The Republic of Cape Verde (Portuguese: Cabo Verde, is a republic located on an archipelago in the Macaronesia ecoregion of the North Atlantic Ocean, off the western coast of Africa.
The previously uninhabited islands were discovered and colonized by the Portuguese in the fifteenth century (though there may have been earlier discoveries), and attained independence in 1975.
Come off it. It was run by the Portuguese , they only help themselves.
But seriously. WHY would an Island the other side of Africa be involved in Sudan. Speak to China. They should stop selling weapons to Sudan.
I just love Cape Verde. I do not know what you call exiting, but the island Boavista is my favourite spot of the Islands.
Please be assured that Cape Verde is a very safe place. No crime at all and you as a single lady can feel very safe over there.
I do not know where you are from and what you are used to, but at these islands there is no plublic transportation (unless a shuttle bus of the hotel). If you walk somewhere and a car pass by, just jump on it. Do not be scared, that's just the way it is. Every driver gives passengers a ride.
Which island do you want to go to ? In case you have any more questions, please do not hesitate to contact me by email.
Take care!
Do they have roads there? Would have thought donkey's more likely. Even if the do do have fuel, how could we know the price there when we don't know it here? If there are any petrol stations , they're going to be next to the harbour. Have you LOOKED at a map of them? First thing I did.

Let me give you a link first:

Here you will find an explanation of every single island with tips what do do, climate, fauna and flora etc.
Almost every island of Cape Verde is different. Mostly you will fly in to Sal via Lisboa. Don't stay on Sal. Pick one of the other islands. I have been to the island Boa Vista. Most relaxing holidays ever. Nothing to do there. Couln't even spend any money. Boa Vista has one holiday resort. Beautiful little houses built in the mountain. Long white beaches and not much tourism.
Cape Verde belongs to one of the poorest countries and everything needs to be importet. I advise you to book an all inclusive package, because otherwise you might not find a suitable restaurant.
Wildlife on Cape Verde are mostly birds. Haven't seen any rivers or waterfalls, but you can make a great Volcano tour on Fogo.
If you would like to see as much as possible of the islands, you can book an island hopping tour. You then will fly in a small plane from one island to the other, just form Fogo to Brava you have to take a ferry.
People on Cape Verde are very friendly and open, but hardly don't speak no english. Most tourist over there are from Italy, Spain an Portugal. It is advised to have a travel insurance in case you fall sick, so you will be flown out. Medical care over there is not compared with western standard.
I hope you will enjoy your vacation. I loved it over there.

Hi,
Cape Verde - great choice! I went there a couple years ago. I went to Boa Vista. Was very relaxing, cause there is NOTHING else to then to relax. Was the best vacation ever. I don't know exactly what you are looking for, but here is a great side:
http://capeverde-islands.com/
this side also gives you information about the different islands. They are not all the same. While Boa Vista is most desert, Fogo i.e. has a great fauna and flora.
Please consider that Cape Verde belongs to the poorest countries on earth. Everything is kind expensive because it needs to be imported. This is the only country where I would recommende to book all inclusive .
Mostly you will to fly via Lisboa to the Main Island Sal. From there you'll go to the different islands in a very little plane. Don't stay on Sal. The Islands are much better.
Should you be interested in more detailed information about Boa Vista or tipps in general, feel free to contact me by email.

I have only heard good reports, its the ideal place for a relaxing, quiet honeymoon but I am not aware of any activities available.
Do some research on Yahoo travel!!

have a great time...
There is no real party scene in Praia or on any of the other islands. I do not know about what certain hotels have to offer, but..............
Bomba'H is a hugely popular nightspot in Praia, especially during the summertime when Capeverdians living abroad visit their country of origin for a few weeks. The club organizes special theme nights in August to cater for the emigrants - there are Paris or Rotterdam theme nights then. If you want to enjoy cool clubbing this is the right place. Action usually starts rather late - going before 2 am does not make sense and you'll dance till the early morning. Lots of Capeverdian music like Zouk, Funana, local HipHop, but also international stuff. And be sure that people are not just standing around, but dancing like crazy and you'll easily meet locals - if you speak Portuguese or crioulo.
The people of Cape Verde like to party. No doubt about that. But this can take place every where and it takes only some good reggae music. Any festival in Cape Verde is just great!
Please be aware that party scenes in hotels are for tourists only.
Some islands are livelier than others. Mindelo and Santa Maria are the liveliest towns with a vibrant buzz of music and local dancers. Boa Vista is the quietest of the four main islands with little nightlife outside the hotels.
I do not know where you are from, so I do not know what night life you want to compare it with.
Take care.
